The national web-portal for public consultations has published a draft of the National Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria for Roma Inclusion and Participation for the period 2021-2030. It is aimed at endorsing unite efforts at the national and regional level, of all stakeholders, including the Roma, to take action to address one of the existing most serious social challenges, namely to put an end to their exclusion.
The main priorities on which the responsible institutions commit with long-term obligations and continue to work are reinforced and underpinned by mutually complementary horizontal objectives: prevention of discrimination by promoting equality, inclusion and participation of the Roma.
The draft strategy refers to the Roma Early Childhood Inclusion in Bulgaria (RECI+) report, prepared by the Foundation Open Society Institute – Sofia, which focuses on the situation in education and care, health care and social services for Bulgarian children of Roma ethnicity aged 0 to 8 years. The report was prepared at the initiative and with the support of Open Society Foundations, the Roma Education Fund and UNICEF and is part of a series of similar studies conducted in the countries from Central and Eastern Europe.
